RESIDENTIAL COLLECTION PROCEDURES

SUPERIORCHARTER TOWNSHIP

REVISED 09-18-07

Superior Charter Township has a contract with Republic Services for weekly curbside residential solid waste including recycling. This contract was negotiated by the Township to assure the best possible service for the least  cost to our residents. Residents who live in apartment complexes or manufacture home communities have solid waste service through their landlords/rental companies.

The current cost is $45.54 per quarter billed quarterly directly to the homeowner. The homeowner signs a contract with Republic for this service (1-877-264-5544 toll free).  The cost includes one 95-gallon curb cart for the containment of waste. In addition, you may use normal plastic secured garbage bags.  There is no limit on the amount of bags you put out each week. The contract is a sole and exclusive franchise and Republic is the only contractor allowed in the Township for residential service. The cost per month will increase on October 1, 2008.

Collection Frequency Once a week

Collection Location– At curb or roadside

Collection TimeWill vary but should be ready for collection by 7:00 a.m. to avoid having to store the trash until the next service day.

Compost (yard waste) service is available only April 1 until November 30 each year and is picked up on your regular trash day by a separate truck. Michigan law prohibits yard waste material (grass clippings, leaves and brush or tree limbs less than 3” in diameter) from being deposited in landfills. Compost material must be placed in brown paper “Kraft” bags (available at most hardware stores or nurseries) or loose in trash cans with handles. Cans must be clearly marked “COMPOST”. Small limbs or brush can be securely tied in bundles that do not exceed 4 feet in length or 50 pounds in weight. Under no circumstances can Repubic pick up yard waste material in plastic bags. Due to their size, Christmas trees are not considered to be compost and will be picked up as trash after the holidays.

TAGGED BAG SERVICE – For customers with low volumes of trash Republic Services offers a tagged bag service. Packets of 10 tags can be purchased at the Township Office for $18.50. One tag per bag (or can) to be picked up. Solid wast tags are yellow; recycle tags are green. If  you are signed up for the bag-tag service,  you may use the recycle service, but not the yard waste program.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES - Republic offers temporary clean-up and/or construction containers in 10, 20, 30 & 40 cubic yard sizes and permanent commercial dumpsters in 2, 4, 6 & 8 cubic yard sizes. Call and ask for a Sales Representative for more information.
